Using Instincts is really very easy - on this page we will show you how. There are two ways to do this. The most time efficient, economic and sensible method it to make largish batches which you can then divide up into daily portions and freeze. The second method is to make your food daily. Overall, this takes longer per meal and can turn out more expensive. In reality, if you are anything like us you will end up doing both systems. You will make a large batch, run out and then for a few days take the easy (lazy!) option of making it daily until you have an hour or two spare to make another large batch again. The lazy option does have an advantage in that you can feed different meats to provide variety. The best way of all, if you are super organised, is to set aside a couple of hours a month and make a batch using different meats each time. Freezer life is long (6 months) so if you keep a record of what you have and when it is made you can feed your cat or cats a nice variety. The two systems, batch and daily have a slightly different weighing system. For the batch method you prepare all the meat you have as outlined below and then measure out the required amount of Instincts to suit. For the daily method you cut just enough meat off your chicken or whatever for the evening meal and the following breakfast and add the Instincts. The two systems are easy and rewarding. After a 1-2 hour batch making session you have the satisfying feeling that you have another month or two's worth of meals available. However, the daily system can slot into a modern lifestyle easily - just taking around 10 minutes to make their evening meal and breakfast. Your cat or cats will soon realise what you are doing and for that 10 minutes you will have their complete attention and affection as they wait Whichever way you do it - you can rest assured that Instincts will give them all the necessary nutrients to keep them fit and healthy - all you have to do is to choose the meat.
You can use Chicken, Turkey, Beef, Lamb, Venison or Rabbit. Pork is not really recommended. Personally, we use chicken most of the time. Lamb has a high fat content and so is better kept until your cat has fully adjusted to the diet. Try to avoid minced or prepared cuts as these can harbour bacteria. Once you have bought your meat, remove as much fat as you can and then rinse under running water and pat dry with some kitchen roll. Next take it off the bone if there is any. Weigh the meat you have got so you can determine how much of the Instincts powder and water you will require. You can download an excel file which will calculate the quantities you require from here.
