Cats are carnivores. In the wild, their diet would be small mammals and birds. By creating your own pet food you can make sure that this is duplicated as much as possible. In essence, we want to try to re-create the nutritional make up of a mouse or other small mammal in your cats bowl.

Instincts is a completely balanced diet and contains all the ingredients to keep your cat healthy - all you need to add is fresh raw meat and liver (either fresh or our liver powder). It need not be used exclusively however. Your cat deserves a bit of variety and the occasional 'tasty treat'.

We give our cats cooked fish once or twice a month - which is much loved. We also occasionally cook chicken or lamb in the oven and feed it warm without using the Instincts powder. Providing they are having the vast majority of their diet with Instincts then a few meals can be fed without it.

Instincts really makes it quick, easy and economical to feed your cat a raw diet. For more detailed product info go here.

We also make our own cat food using some of the basic ingredients that are in Instincts. This involves grinding up chicken bones and meat and adding a variety of minerals etc. We call it our 'Component Method'. Again, it gives variety but requires more effort and care than the Instincts method. To find out more please read on ....

The Component Method

This diet is based on the work of Dr Lisa Pierson and can be found on her web site here

As with the Instincts formula, all the ingredients you use are human food grade. You are free to use whatever meat you like although as it includes crushed bones, chicken is usually the meat of choice as in practice they are the only bones you can crush at home. You have to careful when dealing with bones so that you do not get any dangerous 'shards' that can get stuck. You can probably also deal with rabbit bones but we have not tried. We have prepared some notes on the equipment you will require here
